CANTON CHRISTIAN. COLLEGE,
BUILDING NOTES.
Coles Lodge, generously provided by Dr. J. Ackerman Coles, of New York, in memory of his father, Dr Abram Coles, as the residence of the College physician, bas been under 100f for everal montiza." and only the finishing touches on the.. interior are now needed before Dr. Woods and family may niove it. In the con- struction of this homeo, advantage bas been fully taken of past experience and overal novel features introduced. The result is not only a handsome but an exceedingly well-adapted house.
The two cottages which form the beginning of the village to be occupied by Chinese connected with the College are Snished, end are so attractive that several more applications for similar houses have already been made. This village will probably have a rapid growth and will b of great value as an object lesson.
On October 13th ground was broken, for the foundations of Dean Chung's new residence, provided by Mrs. T. B. Black- stone, of Chicago. A nevel feature of this house is its L-shape with the angle between the two sections opening toward the quarter from which the breezes prevail. in summer so that every bed-room receives a maximum of air.
Work on the building, for the Students Y.M.C.A., which Mr. Ambrose Swasey, of Cleveland, has provided, began on October gath. It is proposed to have it ready for use in the fall of 1914.
Grant Hall, the gift of Mis: John S. Kennedy, of New York, has also been begun, bat owing to the nature of the work progress will be slower. It ought, however, to be ready to house the "Administration" carly in 1915.
The simultaneous crection of these three itaportant buildings is of course keeping the building department extremely husy.

A large consignment of well-seasoned California redwood has been ordered from the Robert Dollar Company of San Francisco. This will materially reduce the cast of the woodwork in these build- ings. Captain Dollar has also generously ecntributed a portion to the value of $1,000 gold.
A well-equipped office and minor surgery for the College Physician has been built and equipped in the east end of Martin Hall. This was made possible by gifts from Mr. and Mrs. Frederic Allis, of

a meeting of the East India Association at the Caxton Hall with Sir James Wilson in the chair, Mr. M. De P. Wabb, O.L.E., well-known as a critic of Indian currency policy, read a paper on Money Power for India." He laid down the general proposition that wo must, as heretofore, give freely of our best to India in every department of Low making a preliminary human activity if our continued presence We display of

should therefore equip India with the best conceivable monetary system and machinery. The open gold mint system of Great Britain, supplemented by a State paper currency and good banking facilities, represented the farthest stage in monetary progress to which mankind had attained. Accordingly, we ought at to establish in India an open gold mint, a full-value gold currency, and the best possible banking machinery. A good State paper currency she already enjoyed; but the proposals of 1803 and 1908 to restore a gold standard and currency to India bad met with continuous opposition Notwithstanding in certain quarters.
