Dear Sir,
Victoria, 26th August, 1866.
Though I have not the honor to be personally acquainted with you, induced by a public exigency of considerable moment to obtain your assistance towards procuring a legal Adviser for this Colonial Government-- Our Attorney General is compelled by a severe disorder of the eyes, threatening blindness to go home directly and in the mean while we have no barrister in the Colony to take his place. Should there be any unemployed person at Ceylon willing to come over at once he would receive £750 (half of the absent Attorney General's salary) for the payment of his expenses on submitting application to the Colonial Secretary.
