: before the Count of this city on the requisition of William Blenkin and others, that Cyprians Antonio Pacheco, Francisco D' Asis Fernandez, and Alexandrino Antonis de Mello were accomplices, they were indicted as such, which caused them to withdraw from Macao, and subsequently also the apprehension of the two former at Hongkong, who, however, having been sent to me from thence by Your Excellency on the 26th August 1846, were here admitted to bail to answer that accusation, which they did, and were free and released.

The indictment was not proved, not only in the case of Marçal but also in that of the accomplices; in the case of the former on the 29th of August, and in that of the latter on the 28th November, last year, but they having appealed to the Supreme Tribunal, they all obtained a complete reversal of their sentence; the last three by decrees of the said tribunal of date 20th April, and Marçal by that of the third September of the present year, as Your Excellency will perceive from the enclosed copies of the said decrees, by virtue of which they were fully acquitted.

This is all the information I can give Your Excellency on the subject. God preserve Your Excellency. Macao, 15th December, 1847.

Your Excellency.

To His Excellency Sir John Francis Davis, Baronet, Governor of Hongkong.
