in
the
exercise of this responsible power. For having
to aided him, I have been subjected to loss and
inconvenience, and
may
be subjected to much more. These
long pending actions at law have involved me in
expenses that I cannot afford, and may if unsuccessful,
not improbably result in my ruin.
As it is in His Excellency's power to
grant me relief by ordering that the expense that
I have incurred or
may incur on this account, be
paid from the Colonial Treasury, I trust that he will be pleased to do so, and that he will also ensure to me for the future, the protection and freedom from anxiety of this nature, which are peculiarly
essential to the proper performance of the duties
of a Magistrate
I have, &c.,
