in consequence directed his (Mr. Hillier's) Connell to waive his demand for this security on this part of the question I beg to refer your Lordship particularly to the note of Mr. Campbell of the 28th May last to the address of Mr. Hillier..
From the whole of the papers it is —
clear that Mr Hillier
throughout acting
on the orders and instructions of his official Superior Sir John Davis; and, as he does not appear to have exceeded the orders
so given
him, I bring the question to your Lordship's notice, and respectfully solicit that I may be permitted to reimburse Mr. Hillier the amount of expenses to which he has necessarily been put in defending this prosecution, amounting to $296.40

Sir John Davis left this Colony on the 30th March, and the trial of the case took place on the 4th May last, - otherwise he no doubt would have seen that Mr Hillier
