the Gouttimen who acted as Colonial Surgeon after the death of Dr Dill is only entitled to full Salary to the day on which the Officer permanently appointed to the situation embarked for the Colony. Mr Morrison has therefore clear right to half salary from the date of embarkation, and Much as I regret it I fear it is impossible to avoid calling upon Mr Young to repay that which has been overpaid him, as the Salary assigned to the Office cannot be drawn by two persons at the same time.

I regret that I omitted to call the attention of your Predecessor to this subject when he reported that he had allowed full salary to Mr Young in consequence of it's having been supposed that the Colonial regulations on this point were so clear and well understood.
