London, W, April, 1913.

St.-It may interest some of your readers to know that I have just returned from a must successful Empire Movement Campaign in Southern India.

I hope that I may be permitted, through your courtesy, to earnestly appeal to your renders for their co-operation in making the observance of Empire Day (May 24th) this year universal throughout the King's Dominions.

It is perhaps hardly necessary to repeat that the Empire Movement” is strictly "Non-Party, Non-Sectarian, Non-Aggressive, Non-Ravia!" offort to awaken the peoples who constitute the British Empire to the duties which lie at their door. It specially aims at the training of the rising generation in all those virtues which tend to make them worthy citizens of the Empire. with a full knowledge and appreciation of the duties and responsibilities which will shortly fall upon them, for the righteous govern ance of the 400 millions of peoples who are to be found within its confiues. Last year, from reports received by the Secretary," Empire Day," or "Victoria Dar' As it is sometimes called, was observed throughout e Empire in some 61,100 Schools, Training Colleges and Institutions, with an attendance of about 8,800,000 scholars. Allowing for those present at the various celebrations, and for those attending religious services, over 5,000 in number, wire Sermons or addresses, emphasising the watchwords of the Movement, were delivered, it may

fairly be assured that some seventeen and half millions of British subjects came under the influcner, of the movement, in

If for any cause it should be found locally undesirable to celebrate "Empire Day" on May 24th, there is no reason why it should not he observed on some other day not far removed from that date (preferably on June 22nd, the Anniversary

Mutual distrust is still strong, and though everybody recognises that only by combination can certain use- ful ends be attained, most of us are pain fully conscious of one another's infirmities as affecting the success of any attempt to Then there is the view work together. that only an official body endowed with of the Coronation of King George V.,authority by Government has any chance and of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen of access. It is much to be regretted that there are still many Schools in poor districts throughout the Empire which are not provided with Flagstaffs and Union Jacks. How can the boys and girls in Hiese schools sainte a non-existent Flag? Will those who believe in the National influence of the Movement assist some poor school to obtain a Flag and Flag staff, and if possible supplement these gifts by a large Wall Man of the Empire, and by a portrait of the King!

More workers are urgently needed to carry cut the objects of the Movement, and an earnest appeal is made to those of independent means, who are willing to labour in the cause, without remunere tion, and at their own expense, to write to the Secretary to the Movement, 83, Lancaster Gate, London, who will gladly send them printed instructions in regard to the nature of the axistance required at their hands.

Copies of the "Empire Catechism," which all British children should learn by heart, and of the Empire Songs" to be sung on Empire Day and all information connected with the Movement can be obtained from the Secretary at the above address, whe will thankfully acknowledge any contributions towards the heavy expenses entitled by the rapid growth of the Movement, which its friends may be willing to send.-I am, Sir,
