Ho was not told to do any shoring until he had started to take it down. Neither of the owners of these houses did comply with the notice within the time specified. In fact, he thought it was quite probable that it was not until well into May that anything was done.

THE MISSING VABE.

Mr. J. Rocholle Thomas, the well-known art dealer of 66. James's-street, has achieved some famo over his advertise ment for a missing Chinese vase. A few weeks ago he purchased at an auction in London an exceedingly rare vase for the sum of £2,047 10s., and he now wants the follow, for which he is willing to pay £3,000. Mr. Thomas has had hundreds of replice, most of which have no connection with China. He is afraid that his chances of finding the second vase are very slight. His own theory is that it is in the posses sion of the late royal family of China, who parted with one and kept the other. He advertised on the chance that the second one may have reached Europe somehow. Princess Toussoun, who sold the vase in the first instance to a middle man, only got £25 for it, but it is stated that this transaction is to be the subject of a court case. Her belief is that the vase was presented by the Emperor of China to Said Pasha to commemorate the cutting of the Suez Canal.
