Hong Kong Great Britain
10. The island of Hong Kong was formally ceded to Britain on the 1st of July 1843. Up to that time, and even to the 1st of September 1843, all Expenses connected with its occupation had been defrayed from the Vote for the China Expedition, and from the Chinese Indemnity Fund, but it was intended thenceforward to place the accounts of the Settlement on the regular footing of those of other Colonies.
