The first meeting of the season was hold on Saturday, and produced some excellent apert, The six events were well filled, and the racing was of a very fair order, several new jockeys making a good show. The weather was cool, and this with the counter traction in the Happy Valley doubtless explained the rather small attendance. The band of the D.C.LL was present and discoursed pleasing selections during the afternoon,

The start was delayed a quarter of an hour, but. eventually the quintette was sent away, with Greylag leading from Flirt. The latter passed into first place, but in the straight Greylag and Edgehill disputed for premier honours, both being challenged near the post by Burglar, who won by a short head, a head separating 208 second and third.
