LAST STAND OF ALLAN WILSON.
́À MATABELE'S TRIBUTE.
In the "Rhodesia Annual for 1912-13," the chief feature of interest is a powerful transcript of history by Mr. Willrid Bussy, founder of the Bulawayo Palice Revier, from the lips of a Matabele warrior who fought against the heroic Allan Wilson and his band in their gal- lant last stand on the Bhangani. River. An impressive opening depicts the old warrior settling down to his yarn, and eutering on it (as will be seen) with a tragic dignity that has lost none of its Homeric quality in the haude of the pre-
sent narrator:
"They came carly, the War Kings of i the White Men. To this day it seems that I could well-nigh have told their tally on the fingers of two hands. But we were ready. They spoko boldly, asking for the The nasty flat taste King's surrender. For answer, there was no sound but the snapping of the hunting on waking in the morning is dogs that had run to greet them from the due to an excessive develop-shade of the schern. Again they spake, ment of bacteria in the mouth demanding that the King should stand forth before them. This time we gave during sleep. The infallible them bullets. I ordered the firing. We antidote is rinsing the mouth had thought to end it thus, but these were with Odol before retiring to more than men, and it seemed as if they rode away even before the shooting had rest
begun. And lol the tense exultant smile of the hunter was on the faces of them all. It is the truth.
