The Petroleum Monoply Bill mentioned in my last. was laid before the Reichstagi by the Secretary of State Herr Kühn on Friday, 6th inst: He said that although the Government hoped to secure in this way a new source of revenue which would. enable them to increase the pensions to naval and military veterans in accordance! with the resolution passed by the House some time ago, the chief object of the bill. was to prevent the Standard Oil Com- pany, that already supplied about 75 per cent, of the lighting oils, from acquiring a de facto monopoly.
