SKIN DISEASES
THE HONGKONG DAILY PRESS, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14TH, 1912.
Overcome by the Wonderful Blood Purifying Properties of Dr. MORSE'S INDIAN ROOT PILLS.
A person suffering from eruptions of the skin has much to endure. It is not merely the discomfiture and irritation and painful sensation, but life is made miserable by depression of spirits. The liver is torpid 1 W
and the kidneys are partially inoperative, and you feel tanguid and weak. The disease is in the blood, and when the system is not cleansed through the usual channels, Nature asserts berself, and forces portions of the impurities through the skin in the form of Pimples, Boils and Blotches. External remedies-powders, ointments, lotions-only alleviate; they do not get at the cause. Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills get at the cause by removing the disease from the Blood. They cleanse the system-by stimulating the Liver and strengthening the Kidneys, which filter the Blood and throw off the impure matter through the regular channels.

Last Baturday Lady Lathom, widow of the late Earl,, wore maize-colour on the occasion of ber marriage with Major-General Lawson, C.B. The gown was charmeuse, the long-trained skirt bordered with dark brown fur, and some beautiful antique Brussels lace trimmed the corsage and formed sash-ends. To complete the har- mony of the toilette the brown velvet hat exactly matched her sable stole. There is really no reason that the bridal toilette of widows should not show almost any colour, except perhaps white and very light cream, and, of course, black. No doubt the coming year will show many developments in the way of variety of colour.
NEWEST NECK WEAR.
In addition to the newly revived stock which is such a comfortable supplement to the collarless blouse or boilice, the novelty of the moment is a long strip cf erubroidered silk which passes twice round the neck, and is held by a lace pin. For in cream- the very chilly mufflers coloured wool, very fuely knitted, fit closely to the collar and fasten with a spring button.
The colours are white, saxe-blue, amethyst, resoda; cinnamon, and navy. More protective still is the knitted woollen muffler, with a simulated turn-down collar bordered with a piping of any colour. This kind completely protects the chest in front, and being rounded at the back, is warm and where the cost-collar fails in these qualities. It fastens down the front with pearl buttons. The motor-schrl has been gradually going out of favour for ordi- nary outdoor dress. These malbes jurt come in in time for the cold weather that we may now begin daily to expeol.
THE CORSELET SKIRT.
This form of skirt is in almost as great vogue as it has enjoyed for the last three or four years. Needing some sicillin-out, it is well worth the additional money, obviating as it does the necessity for grip fasteners and belts. With t any hiatus between blouse and skirt is avoided, and the fastening is all in one with that of the skirt itself. It is not suitable for evening dresses, which are cut all in one, but is admirable for the early morning One of hours and for outdoor wear. these skirts, modelled closely to the figure below the hips, is slightly loose in front, though fitting tightly at the back and sides. Any blouse can be worn with the corselet skirt, and those of the present season are both neat and becoming, as described in this column of last Thurs- day's Globe.
LONG KNITTED COATS.
Long knitted coats and knitted jerseys are the very thing for cold weather wear. While admitting the air through the in- torstices of the web, they keep the body warm and protect the lungs both back and front. Does everybody know that the lungs extend almost to the waist at the back, and need as careful covering there as they do in front? It is a piece of physiological lore of which many girls There is a new grow up in ignorance. colour for the long knitted oat, & cross between deep purple and deep pink. Cer tain rhododendrons are exactly in this shade, and there are petunias in the same lovely tint, as becoming to blonde as to brunette. Feathered hats do not go very well with the long knitted coat, which belongs to the list of purely country clothes. A toque made of the same material as the gown is more suitable, and also the felt hat of the hour. With a cost of the colour just described the felt hat should be either cream or the fashionable pale yellow, so pale that it can scarcely be called yellow, but is rather chamois-colour.
FOR EVENING WRAIL,
Evening dress is quite lovely this year, and the tunic as much to the fore as ever, though rather shorter than those of last winter. The bead embroidery is all the rage, and it is almost crowded upon the non that composes these tunics. They are of the most vivid colours, and the variety of designa is surprising. There. appears to be no end to the inventiveness of the clever brains employed in this in- terdsting, if arduous, work. The great difficulty must be to differentiate the patterns from each other. One of the loveliest has two long-stemmed lilies rising from the hem in front, and a border of similar but smaller lilies finishes the tunic. The colour is verise with crystal beads, and a curiously effec tive touch is the very narrow, flat piping in the very palest greenish-blue, which finishes the tunic round the shoulders and borders the sleeves. Beautiful effects are made by laying these beautiful colours over each other. One which sounds im- possible, but is really most successful, is bright military red veiled with saxe-bine, It might be thought that these rather gaudy tinta would be very unbecoming, but they so modify each other that the very reverse is the case.
SOME ATTRACTIVE GOWNS.
Flesh-pink ninon over white soft satin, A composes a charming evening gown. Greck aspect is given it by the straight overskirt, ending exactly midway between waist and feet. There is a border. to this and a border on the lower skirt precisely alike, and representing tulips rising from a leaf-shaped design. A smaller form of this embroidery borders the bodice and the end of the kimbue sleeve. The whole is worked in pink and silver beads, and there is a neat folded belt of pink satin The line of bodice and silver ribbon." remains, as last season, carried well up over the top of the arm, and quite dis- tinct from the Edwardian low bodice in this respect.
