R.G.A. V. R.E.

These teams were in opposition at Happy Valley on Saturday, the encounter resulting in a win for the Artillery by two clear goals. At the outset the latter's front rafik were very persistent, and within five minutes they had broken the ice in brilliant fashion. Pinchard, un the extreme left, who was always a source of trouble to the losers; got away on his own and centred beautifully from an awkward angle to the inside right, and the latter had no difficulty in heading into the act. The Artillery's attack put plenty of vim into their efforts, and sorely harassed the apposing defence, who managed to stave off any further addition to the score. Prior to the interval they rallied strongly, and pretty play by the centre forward nearly fructified Weak- ness in their final efforts, however, again told its tale, and the R.G.A.'s custodian was rarely seriously troubled. AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING

The shipping subsidy question, says a contemporary, is apparently causing a good deal of controversy in Australian commercial circles, in consequence of the lack of community of action between the different States.
