It is evident that this develop ment has produced au aente political crisis in Peking, and it has been announced in the National Assembly that the Cabinet is prepared to resign en masse if the people wish, "so that a new Cabinet may take up the difficult task which lay before the country, for internal opposition only made the position of the Government harder." It may be gathered from this announcement that strong pressure has been brought to bear on the Government to assort its full sovereignty over the whole of Mongolia by force of grins; and that the Government is reluctant to go to war because it means fight ing not only Mongoliaus but Russians. Ta this connection attention may be called to the REUTER's telegram appearing in our yesterday's issue saying, on the authority of the Agency's correspondent at St. Petersburg, that a Cossack force of unstated BLEND OF THE FINEST PURE strength is being sent to Urga, and that

Hongkong reservoirs, exceeding as it does 70 degrees Fahrenheit in the hot season, is too high for the successful rearing of trout. Moreover these reservoirs are not fed by streams suitable for the breeding of trout put into the reservoirs.

Attention was therefore turned to the breeding of black basa, an excellent fish which rise well to the artificial fly and takes a fly spoon well. By the courtesy of the Government of the Philippine Island, when this Gsh had been imported from the United States a consignment of young iry, about 45 in number, was sent to the Colony, under the personal care of Mr. Alvin Seale, Chief of the Division of Fish and Fisheries in the Bureau of Science at Manila. The consignment arrived in excellent condition, and carly in August, 1908, fifteen fry were liberated in Tytam reservoir while 30 were placed in a small pond which had been con- structed for their reception by making a dam across a stream flowing into the re- servoir on its western side. In this pond the fish have thriven well and have demonstrated that they will breed here. Unfortunately some of the fish escaped over the dam in consequence of the wire it being netting superimposed upon broken. One of these fish found its way eventually into the Albany filter beds, when it was caught and restored to the
