MONEY TROUBLE,
The question of the scarcity of silver is still as much to the fore as ever and people everywhere are refusing to accept local bank notes with impunity. The other day one of the officers in charge of the Military Department in Wuchow | requested that his salary be paid in silver as notes were at a discount and he was losing a lot. Also, money-changers are very anwilling to change notes and have resorted to the old discount rates despite the Government orders. Again, at many of the railway stations, the station masters are refusing paper money and only accepting silver. It looks very much as if we were on the verge of more serious Goancial trouble than ever.

It appears that, as the result of a meeting between the Sextuple Group and the Minister of Finance, the matter of the letter, dated 5th August, which was wat by the Ministry of Finance to the Sextuple Group but which miscarried, has been smoothed over without loss of face to either side.
