CREMATORIUM FESTIVITIES.
There has just been a great feasting and merry-making in Abrdu, the chief town of the adjoining canton of Aargau, over the opening of a new crematorium. Al- though the town has barely 0,000 in habitants, it has contrived to spend £6,000 upon its crematorium. The public administrator objected to Miss Arbuckle's appointment, but the courts decided that, despite her nge, she was fully competent to manage the estate. Her administration will save the estate £75,000 a year, which would have been Larned into the New York treasury as the statutory percentage if the public trustee had been given charge.

Norman Macleod, the famous Minister of Burony Church, Glasgow, first editor of Good Words, and one of Scotland's favourite divines, was born at Campbel town on June 3rd, 1812, and the conten- ary of his birth was observed by the publication in most of the Scottish papers last month of anecdotes and incidents in the great divine's career. In his first parish in Ayrshire. Norman Macleod found many of the old Covenanting stock sticklers for orthodoxy. When he was on his first ound of visitation in Darvel, he called apon ar old woman who was looked upon as a great light among the Covenantery, When the young minister entered the house be found her grasping her tin ear trumpet (for she was very deaf), nød seated formally in the midst of a group of neighbours and co-religionista, sum moned to meet him.
