In my Despatch N 128 of December 27th, I reported that the temporary duties of Acting Crown Prosecutor would be performed by Mr. M. Parker, who before acted in the capacity on Mr Sterling's first return to England.

Mr. Sterling is expected to arrive by the next Mail Steamer, but in the mean while the half of the half-salary of Attorney General, £375 amounting to only £375 per annum, was not sufficient inducement to Mr. Parker to abandon a portion of his professional practice to undertake the duties of Crown Prosecutor, and I was obliged to allow him a fee of twenty five Dollars, about £5.5.0. on each case, which under...
