A MIDNIGHT' EXPERIENCE.
The time was midnight. I had been having a late night at the office and the red signal at the ferry wharf made me do the hundred yards in record time to entch the launch. The whistle was blown, hit managed to dash on board before the gangway was raiset, and entered the Four soldiers cabin a little breathless. were already there. Two of them had their heads out of the window addressing some invisible persons to the effect that they were British soldiers and were good enough to associate with anybody. I reented trouble,
As I sat down one of the soldiers with drew his head from the window and look ed at me with the suspicion of a tear in kis rye. Then he summoned up his courage to address me. Coming over to where I was seated he asked, “Would you
