THE

With the advent of the new year the tide of new British Colonial stamp issues, stommed for more then twelve months post by the difficulties encountered in scouring sailable designs, will begin to flow in earnest, and will continue Since the overseas throughout the year. Possessions of the British Crown represent fully- one-third of the stamp-issuing countries of the world, the fact that practically the whole of their postage stampa will undergo a change within the next twelve months is a matter of no small moment to stamp collectors.
No sooner had King George socosded to the Throne than rumour was rife as to the philatelic changes that must necessarily follow, and it was thought that they would be given almost immediate effect. Actually, however, the delay In the present Instance has been even more prolonged than in the case of the Edwardian jd. and imes so that, with the exception of the 1d. values of the Mother Country, the only stemps of King George that have been issued to far some from the widely separated Possessions of Newfoundland, South Africa, Rhodesia, and India.
To Newfoundland is due the credit of having given birth to the first posinge stamp of the Georgian era, which, printed in black and of the denomination 15 casts, formed part of a series issued in the New Isls in August, 1910, to mark the tercentenary of its colonization. This stamp was roughly lithographed by Messrs. Whitebrad. Morris, and Co., of Fenchurch street, London, and hare an unfaltering fall face portrait of his Majesty in naral uniform But it was the first postage stamp of the new sign, and as such is entitled to the veneration of all philatelists. Subsequently it was re-issued printed from engraved steel plates, and has but recently passed out of issun,

De La Raa, was for a short time on sale at the High Commissioner's Office in London, where soms 42,000 copies were disposed of between No
