My Lord,
I have the honour to enclose for your Lordship's information the accompanying application from Mr. Miles, 1st Clerk of the Treasury, for 18 months leave on sick certificate, a copy of which is annexed. In consideration of his present suffering as detailed in the Colonial Surgeon's Certificate, I have granted it.
And by letter dated 29 April 1848, I have appointed Mr. G. Michell to succeed Mr. Miles on the half salary of the Office, from this date inclusive.
With reference to the latter part of Mr. Miles's letter, I have to recommend his prayer to your Lordship's favourable consideration.
