"I have the honour to inform your

Lordship that in consequence of the resignation by Mr. Marques of the Appointment of being Registrar General and Interpreter (in the Chinese language) as conveyed in the accompanying copy of his letter of the 4th instant, I have, as a temporary arrangement, nominated Mr. Stephenson, Clerk in the office of the Registrar General, to perform the duties of being Registrar General for the 4th instant inclusive, until the return of Mr. Inglis who has obtained 4 months leave of absence on urgent private affairs, as reported in my despatch Despatch N° 119 of 19th November last. Mr Stephenson has been 3 years and 7 months in the service, and
