MAIL TABLES

came back from the mysterious processes which haro oleased them, it is found that these same processes are also supped their vitality.
tho Even if the material, ol dress eurvives, there is mortality amorg the hooke, buttons, tapes, and so forth. The dress wante by the time everything has been rectified, a couple of hours bas slipped away Modorn en- terprise has found a way of avoiding all this, for the private individuals who can afford to pay for the release which after sil does not oost very much. Thero is more than one com- pany which sote se a slet sending at stated intervals of once a wooks, or more, or loss, taking away clothes that require slezing, renovating or merely vienling, returning them brashed and in their right mind in a very short space of. time, So one ou send away dress to he cleaned and have it come home not only free of dirt but actually ready to put on.

La how many navob do we read that the horoins hastily donned a clean nation frrek? It is sot to be done. Those clean cotton frocks --they come home from the wash and amile up sl one is their crispness and freshness. Then one tries to don them hostily. off and so forth, I believe a laundry was once started which advertised itself as laundry with a conscience. Apparently no one could believe in the combination, for it had i to be shut up. Various home devices for cleaning are on the market, of which, of the most frequent ia petrol or course benzine. Others are done up in easier forms, anch as a cleaning stick, for which it is claimed that it only has lo touch the stain to remove it, or cloth-balls, and so forth. Liquid ammenia does wonders, salts of lemon can be relieil on at a pineb, but, after all, these only refer to casualties, and not to-the-dark-east-of-j dirt which sicklies o'er the countenance of our pretty frocke.
FROCKS FOR INDOORS,
When aulainn evenings make the froside cony, and yet cot quite necessary, the thoughts of youth turn to pretty hours gowns, for with the beginning of each new season we feel a ostural instinct to sloths ourselves freshly and suitably. The first spring day ineri. tably sends us out to buy a Bat; the first autumn day turas our thoughts to cashmere and tweed; ad a white mu in dress or a cosy fur cap are almost synonymak with the opening of summer or winter. The Indian cashmere patterns, over which Paris raved last season, are still worn fairly often, but they will have nothing like the same vegus this autumn, for they were copied in cheap materials, and lent themselves to general wear far too much to plosse the or

Per haps the favourite adornment was the long single chain of pearla, since it lont itself to every kind of dress and many ways of wearing. Distinctly the most striking pearls were those which were strung with a very tiny one, or a very small crystal, in between each two of the larger pearls. Treated in this way pearls always stand out, and one can see their beautiful shadows and colours very much better than when they fouch each other.
