I beg respectfully to refer their cases to the consideration of His Excellency.

His Excellency The Governor with a view to obtain a gratuity for them, which may be of great assistance to them.

I beg to mention that in the London and other Police establishments in England a rule is adopted, of giving a constable declared by the Jury unfit for the Service, who may not be entitled to Superannuation and has served five years a month's pay for each year's service.

The four constables named in this report have served in the Hongkong Police two years and six months having all joined on the 12th of April 1845 and have conducted themselves very well. The rate of pay per month including the value of rations and clothing is as follows:

Serjeant Atkins ... 45.4.2.
Acting Serjeants Coutter & Hussey ... 47.6.
Police Constable Parker #1 ... 3.19.2.

The date of joining the Police is fixed from the discharge of the Constables from the Army up to which period their claim for military pension extended. Although they commenced the performance of Police Duty on the 15th of March 1844.
