MINDEN DAY.

TROOFING OF THE COLOUR.

The ceremony of Trooping the Colour was performed by the lat Battalion King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry) on the Hongkong Cricket Club Ground at 9.30 a.m. yesterday on the occasion of the 152nd anniversary of the Battle of Minden, in which the regiment took a very prominent part. About 200 men, under the command of Lieut. Colonel Hamilton, took art, and their movements were watched with

great interest by a fairly large number of people. All the offers and men wore roses on their Istmets and tanios, and the drums of the hand

were festooned with the same flower, the colours also being likewise decorated. The troops were

It is well for the regiment to recall in times of peaco how the gallant 51st with the rose of Old England in their head-dreas marched stodily forward without flinching at Minden, though the hail of cannon shot left one in every three men dead or wounded behind. How in four successive charges the enemy's cavalry hurled themselves against the rampart of layonets, and were scattered as the wave of the sa dushing against a mass of rock, though the troops were armed only with a matchlook, which was not effective much beyond one hundred yards.
