The trifling addition of 5 Dollars a month to the Salary of a Chinese Clerk in the Chief Magistrate's Office, proposed by me to the Executive Council, was however approved on the recommendation of the Chief Magistrate, Copy of which is enclosed together with the Clerk's Petition as the man has served faithfully for five years I hope your Lordship will be pleased to sanction.

Should these applications for increase of salary be recommended to the Treasury? In the case of the addition proposed to her Morgan's salary, I do not know whether it might not be as well to wait until the effect of the New Arrangements in increasing his work is ascertained? A present increase, only on his anticipations from March 27.
