He is all the haughtier because he has been deprived of one of his superior attitudes, by the vanishing of the train on women's dresses. No longer can he say: "Why do you women wear such idiotic frooks, that everyone falls over, and then you are annoyed?"

COLOURS AND FABRICH,
Shot gauze is, perhaps, the most charming of the materials at present in: fashion. I saw a charming ball-gown of it the other day made of copper and green silk ganse over. green, the bodice nad sleeves, and edge of the
short skirt being embroidered in the tiniest raised dote in a tone of greenish cream. Satin for noder-dress and net for the ubiquitous Gunic is almost a livery just now. The new volret ganze has only penetrated to the ball-room in one or two very up-to-date cases. It is really velvet, but it is as soft and almost as light is chiffon, and when embossed is, a shoer delight to the eye.
GLORIOUS GOWN,
A dress in point is made of this velvet in moon. light green, embossed with ivy leaves, and veiled with a tunic of deep purple net embroider. ed with the darkest parple iridescent beads. Round the shoulders the deep richness of this.colouring anddenly breaks out into orohid- mauvo talk and in front a cluster of purple and dark blue snemones, carried out in velvet, gives the clinching note to the colour sohanie. With this goes a wrap of black not covered with points of set, so small that the eye cannot dis- tinguish them, and lined with green chiffon, w an inter-lining of purple chiffon. A deep cape-collar and stole of chicohilla quakes a gopi finish to this delicious costume

The use of beads are many, had the colours in which they are produced are no subtle that very often they can scarcely be traced. In a ball-room last week particularly fascinating gown whose Ing balled me for half the evening, moonlight bine satin, short and almost quite plain, it had a tunic of black not, on which were patterned very beautiful leaves in a spraiding design, which wout over the not almost like & woven pattern. The tunic was edged with a narrow fringe of jet. After following the lady round like the most anxious chaperon, I at last discovered that the pattern was carried: ont tiny bronze beads, sharply cut but very smoothly Inid on. The effect was not of the colour of bronze, it was quite indescribable, but very good indeert. These beads are everywhere, and fringes go with them, both in bonds, orystal, and jet, Satin is somaline-used for beading, but it on hardly be worked so small as is required for some of the purposes fulfilled by bondé, pond
THE TURKISH TROUSEL.
The divided skirt has been agitating London since the "Arcadians" dressed themselves anew. It is a very short step from some of the gownS we have had reseatly. The hobble mido it necessary, but the full, gathered-tu skirt made it passible. A gown of fine black not, powdered with tiny dull gold beads as the sky with stor- dost, is a hored into a narrow him so loosely that it overhangs the hem almost to its edge weich is several inches from the ground. This very pretty dress almost approached the Turkish trouser in appearance, and it will not be, at all surprising if we find ourselves in, trousers next year. The ride-astride morement, os the one hand, the hobble skirt on the other, the appalling weather, which makes skirta more a nuisance than prar, are all working to the name and

THE-EKFIRE TOHUS)
The revival of the Empire modes seama likely to be more accurate, at least for even- ing wear, than any recent adaptations have bean. I have seen one or two perfect repro- ductions of First Empire prints recently. At one dance there was a girl in a high-waisted lemon-coloured silk gown, her dark hair piled on her head, with a plain Empire band of gold about It, no, orzamonts, and #3 inch wide strip of pale
velvet ribbon high round her neck. serious complaints arise, and should therefore not be neglected. The slight headache, bad breath, and a discoloured tongue are the index to a disordered stomach; and the necessity of keeping a safe, sure, and reliable remedy in the house is apparent. By following such a course the more expensive method of calling in a doctor will be found quite unnecessary. That Dr. Morsc's Indian Root Pills are the very best Family Medicine is vouched for by thousands of grateful men and women who speak from personal experience.
Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills are not simply a purgative medicine which forces the food out of the body, depriving the stomach of its nourishment and thus starving the system. They contain the essential properties that are temporarily lacking in the stomach through weakness, and complete the digestion and assimilation; and sp restore the functions of the digestive organs by obtaining the maximum of nutriment from the food which sustains. the body and assures good health. -
DR. MORAR'S INDIAN ROOT PILLS are an efficient, reliable, and safe remedy placed on the market at a price within the reach of all. The Pills being sugar-coated, are pleasant to take, and retain their full medicinal properties. They are packed in amber-coloured bottica-not in cheap wooden or pasteboard boxes and are thus always fresh and clean, inspervious to moisture, unaffected by climatic conditions, and do not deteriorate by keeping as all liquid medicines do.
