A Medical Officer
Debility, Nervous Exhaustion-
Certainly the absolute confidence of eminent doctors is evidence enough of the exceptional benefits imparted by Phosferine. Even doctors cannot do more to prove their confidence than by using Phosferine to remedy their own disorders. Could any proof be more definite, more convincing than the testimony of Jelm Dodd, D.S.M., Medical Officer in the late South African War, who says: "After being shot through both lungs I was dangerously reduced, and I attribute it solely to Phosferine that I regained my usual bealth. I have proved the value of Phosferine in brain, nerve, and muscular exhaustion." This brilliant medical officer folind Phosferine particularly serviceable for insufficiency of nerve force, and declares nothing was so suitable in combating fevers, chills, &c.
Not possible now
John Dodd, D.S.N. (late of the Medical Staff, stb Imperial Yeomanry, 1st Brigade, South Africa), Ladysmith House, Witton-le-Wear, writes: "I have had considerable experience in the use of your invaluable remedy Phosferine, and it has proved particularly serviceable where there exists insufficiency of serve force. This condition, often due to primary weakness, lays the system open to influenza, colds, neuralgia, rheumatism, indigestion, foyers, and in remedying this predisposition I have found nothing so suitable es your preparation Phosferine invariably goes to the root of the mischief direct. The certainty of its action is moreover an estimable feature. In debility and kindred ailments, caused by a reduced system, it has unprecedented power, and in my own case I can bear evidence to its exceptional value, and am indeed greatly indebted to its wonder.. ful restorative properties. During the late war in South Africà, I was shot through both lungs and pericardium and that reduced me. most dangerously; after taking Phosterine for about two months it brought I attribute this solely to the use of me back to my usual health. Phosferine. I have advised Phosferine in several cases, and proved its value in brain, nerve, and muscular exhaustion."-March 11, 1910.

LESSENING GLACIERS.
In the experiments of HE Willie and J Boyle, Jr,, solar beat has been collected by paring water through a glass-covered heater exposed to the sun's rays. The heated water was stored in a well insulated tank, and drawn, any favourable offeofs of the baths or per- sons of healthy akin sooming to be due to off to circulate around a sulphur dioxido boiler,

SUCCESSFUL ELSOTNO-CULTURE.
The syston of electric agriculture developed by Sir Oliver Lodge, aided by J. E. Norman and R. Bomford, is now in use on several forms in England, six in Germany, and one in Holland. A network of galvanized fron wires is suspended at a height of 18 feet on wooden porte 70 yards apart, about ose post per acre being needed, and an induction coil, supplied with continuous current by an ordinary dynamo. posititely electrifles the wires to 60,000 to 100,000 volts. This electrification of the air over the soil continues 8 to 10 hours a day for 5 or 6 months. Very little power is needed, and the yield per acre is increased 30 per cent, and even more under some conditione

A zow fire-alarm box tried at Kiel has a lond speaking telephone transmitter and receiver in place of the usual clockwork mechanism. This anables the central station to make necessary inquiries about the fire.
STONES IT WOOD.
A unique instance of the enclosum of stones by growing wood has been brought to the notice of the Linnaean Society of London by Cool Caras-Wilson. A gravel-pit was opened, usar Faversham, Kent, about 23 years ago, and exosration was continued until 10 years ago, the oak trees growing over the deposit having been felled and the stumps and roots dislodged. The gravel consists of bangular, water-worn Hints and sandstone blocks mixed with sand. Some of the roots and stumps are still on the grennd, as the woody tissue had taken up and completely enveloped many of the stones, and the material not only resisted saw and axe but was dangerous to use as fuel because the heat caused the violent bursting of the stones. Some roots contain dozens of stones, really' forming a conglomerate of inte enclosed in a woody matrix. In one speciman 67, flints were counted, the largest weighing several pounds, and many empty cavities showed where others had fallen out through shrinkage of the wood Examples of stones in wood in much less abund” ance ste not unknown elsewhere. A church. Fard six or seven miles south of Faversham has air very large yews in the trunks of some flints, being embedded 7 feet above ground; and Another churchyard not far away has two yew showing fints and fragments of tiles at a height of 7 feet.
SUSPENSION BRIDGE DEFLECTION.
The most rigid leng-span suspension bridge over built is stated by T. Kennard Thomson to be the Williamsburg Bridge of New York. The bridge is 7,250 feet long, the main span being 1,595 fast, the stiffening trusses are about 40 fest doop, and the four main cables contain 31,784 wires, 208 wires making up each of the 37 strands of cach cable, The de- Bection at the centre-due to expansion, contrad tion and live load-is6 feet 9 inches, The Brooklyn suspension bridge is 6,000 feet long with a river spas of 1,595 fest, and the centre risas and falls about 9 feet each way, or 18 feet in all. The Blackwell's Island bridge, a cantilever, in ex- pected to have an extreme defection of only about 20 inches.
AN EXAGGERATED DANORE. Bewer air has been robbed of much of its terrors, a sconrste investigation has shown that it cannot spread disease in the wholesale manner formerly sttributed to it. The evidence tends to show that the germs of sewer når are these of street-air, and that only very rarely are angerms taken up from wage,
SCIENCE IN PICTURES.
Moving pictures now reprosent activities of wide range. Photographs have been made of plants at rather long intervals, and have shown the entire development on a screen a few moments. Using X rays, Kohler has obtained pictures of the movements of respiration. Each exposure lurted 15 seconds, during which time the braath was held, and the reduced photo- graphs, joined in a continuous strip, were projected by the cinematograph in a moving picture of the respiratory process. With electric sparks of one ten-millionth of a second, Crant Las photographed 400 successive phases of the firing mechanisms of an automatic pistol, although the entire operation ocenpied only a teath of a seccad. Other feats have boon as martalions, and Londenfeld, in one of these achievements, has recorded the flight of insects by moving pictures, using exposures of 1/42,000 of a sound,

CONVINCING EXPERIMENT.
Dr. Sabourand, of the Pasteur Institute, Paris, France, inoculated a rabbit with human dandraft germs, and "in between fire and six weeks," says the official repert of the Fasteur Institute, the rabbit was completely denuded, in fast it had become entirely bald
This experiment proves that dandraff is a contagious disease dao
to the presence of misrobis growth in the sebaceous glands of the sealp. It also proves that unless the formation of dandruff is stopped -by destroying the dandruff germ-that it will lead to falling hair and incurable baldness.
