Mr. S. John Perera, of 24, Hill Street, Colombo, is a clerk in the Ceylon Office of the Russin Volnster Flest. He is doubly grateful to Dr. Williams' Pink Fills for Fale People for, in the first instance, building up his own strength atter Bateris Fever, and, secondly, and more particularly, for restoring his wife to health when she was in a terribly weak condition.

CASTLES IN THE AIR.

DIRIGIBLE SYNDICATE FOR ENGLAND.

It is generally agreed that Great Britain has been lagging behind in the race for the supre macy of the air, Some enthusiasts havė dono their host, within limitations, to remedy this slothfulness, but none has displayed the magni- font enterprise of which Baron Roenne informs us in a cironlar. SEPTE

Baron Roenno is an airship engineer, tele--| grams addressed to * Diribible, Londos," will find him, and his present patriotic purpose is to establish a British Airship Line, with the two- fold object of commercial profit, and the mastery of the air for Great Britain, whose welfare in a national crisis he baa st heart.

It is proposed, therefore, to form a syndicate with sufficient capital to promote the following undertaking :---

The construction of a fleet of airships, 2. The establishment of a passenger and mail

service

Each airship is to have a lifting power of 103) tone. "Soma men might be content to state it in round figures, but the baron is particular, the extra quarter is no doubt important This power will, we are assured, make the service a most profitable undertaking.

Teke, for eampie, says Baron Roenne sirily (that seems in the circumstances the right word), a service between London sud Berlin --- Departure from London 6 ain. Arrive Berlin 6 p..

Departure from Berlin 6 London 6 pm

Arrive

Thus the journey to Berlin and back, 1,1181 miles, will be accomplished in thirty-six hours.

There is a sublimity of simplicity, about this reckoning which disarms' oriticism. And the baron tells us that in this estimate ho has allowed for strong head winds of a velocity of fifty Aro milce por hour. Anything under that amount of wind will mean a quickening of the service perhaps eight, or

hours.

отец

ONLY NINE MONTH: OVREĎUE,

And another matter to be borne in mind is that well-equipped airship is less liable to delay fasn a railway train or a marine vessel. If any doubt is felt on this point references are permitted to Count Zeppelin, the British War Office, Aeronanties Department, or the designers of the Clement Bayard airship, whose arrival: has daily been expected on these shores for the last nine months.

The profit and loss account of such an under taking is plainly set forth. Each vessel will carry 200 first-class passengers and 200 second clase, and such a number travelling on 350 days during

the year at ordinary rates of 34 and £3 for the single journey will produse revenue of £490,000.

That is quite clear, Wall, then, for the ex- penditure on each airship $25,000 is allowed for bensine and oil, £5,000 for salaries, £35,000 for writing off and other expenses, and £23,000 for ga. Perhaps the estimate for gas is less than But let tlist pass, an

And in this estimate, it may be higher ratas, ond yeasel could comfortably earn observed, no account of the extm profit which might be earned if the Daylight Bill should be Pamed, is taken.

A beginning has already been made. Akun dret nares of land have been secured, but, for obvious reasons, its precios locality is not stated. However, it can be reached from the City in less than twenty minutes. All that Baron Roenne requires now is money to build the docks and the Airships. 12

Everybody may not know that an airship with lifting capacity of 1051 toma and a speed of fifty-five miles an hour against a strong wind costs about £30,000, and that it is capable of going from London to New York in soventy-two hours...

However, the Baron has worked out all the necessary plans, and he is going to begin build- ing as soon as he gets the money,

It may be accepted as a positive fact that he is not approaching the subject with the mmature mind of
