NEW POLAR EXPEDITION. Air Ernest Shackleton is planning an Anlerotio expedition which will be the most. ambitious undertaking yet organised to explore the Bouth Pelar regions. It will leave in sbout two years, in order not to conflict with Captain Heott's expedition, and two ships will probably be engaged. The cost will be borne by wealthy friends of the explorer.
In discussing the arrangements for this- before he left for America, said to Renter's Important expedition, Sir Ernest Shackleton:

I have no intention of trying to reach the Pole while Captain Boott is engaged in that Project. There can be no question of compoti. tion betwson British explorers in any mero attempt to reach the Pole. But, spart from thin, there is a great amount of mientific work to be done in the Antarctic in which the more expeditions there are engaged the better it will be for science.
***Captain Scott has one base at McMurdo Sound and another on King Edward the Seventh's Land, and the American base is the Weddell Bes, but there is a region extending from Cape Adair to Ganssberg that has many interesting problems,
