America, arriving at Rio de Janeiro on Novem ber: 17. After calling at various ports the Pelerts arrived at Para, at the mouth of the Amazon, on January 10, and made a stay there of nine days. The cruiser then left for Mancos, dourishing city about 1,000 miles up the Amazon. She arrived there on January 26, which must be considered a remarkably good performance. The latest news which has been recived is that the vessel left on February 5 only about 600 miles from the Pacific seaboard, for Iquitos. The latter place is in Peru, and is while it is nearly 1,500 miles from Mannos. It is, of course, well known that the Amazon is navigable by steamers for 2,500 miles of its coarso, but no one anticipated that a fairly large war vessel would be able to make the voyage. The Pelorus is commanded by Captain A. W Craig.
