A summons under the Merchandise Marks Act against the British Cigarette Co., Ld, of Shanghai a company organized under the Hongkong Ordinances, and H. A. Keily, manager of the same, is at present engaging the attention of H. M. Polies Court at Shanghai The summons alleges that the defendants have
applied or procured to be applied & false trade description, to certain goods produced by them at Poctung, China. The words alleged to have been used are: "made in U.S. of America," "Autocar Cigarettes, W. D. and H. O. Wills; Bristol and London," and "John Player and Sous. The complainant in the case was Mr. F. M. Jonas. The case has been adjourned till the 12th inst owing to the absence from Shang hai of Mr. Kesley.
Kemp at Magistracy yesterday on a charge of robbery. The defendant, with two other men not in custody, is alleged to have entered a residence at 52, Des Voeux Road East, blinded the only occupant, an old woman, by throwing popper in her eyes, removing a gold bangle from her wrist, and departed with other gools and chattes. The defendant was captured when attempting to pawn the bangle at Wanchai. When he presented the bangle the pawnbroker usked him if he was willing to see the inspector. Wanchai Police Station, and was detained. Ho told the police that a man who was ranting dropped the bangle and he picked it up. The hearing of the case was adjourned.
