We cannot find in the latest quarterly re- turns of the Imperial Maritime Customs any confirmation of the reports so frequently anil confidently reported that the anti-opium movement in China is still going strong. So far as the import of foreign opium is con- cerned during the third quarter of the pre- sant year the Customis returas go to show considerably larger business thau in the cor responding quarter of last year. Queen Alexandra is an enthusiatic anatour photographer. It is said that her hobby was once the instamment by which a railway accident was prevented. According to the "Penny Magazine" Her Majesty had taken a photograph of a train passing, over a railway bridge, and, after developing it, observed a peculiar curve in
the plate that caused the carve, she took another photograph of the bridge, with the same result. Her Majesty then showed the pictures to the King, when the bridge was examined by his command and found to be in a dangerous state.
