PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by a certain Act passed by the Honourable the President of the Council of India in Council on the 7th day of August in the Year 1847, with the assent of the Right Honourable the Governor-General of India, entitled, "An Act "to authorize the reception of Convicts transported from Her Majesty's Settlement "of Hongkong," it is enacted, "That it shall be lawful for the Governor-General of "India in Council in his executive capacity to authorize the Governor of Prince of "Wales' Island, Singapore, and Malacca, to receive in the said Settlements, and the "Resident Councillors of Prince of Wales' Island, Singapore, and Malacca, to receive, "in each of the said Settlements respectively, Convicts who have been duly sentenced "to transportation by any competent Court in Her Majesty's Settlement of Hong- "kong; and that every such Convict, when so received at any such Place, shall be "liable to all such and the same Laws, Rules, and Regulations as are or shall be in "force in any such Place with respect to Conviets transported from any Place within "the Territories subject to the Government of the East India Company." Now, therefore, I, Sir John Francis Davis, Baronet, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, in pursuance of the said Act, do hereby direct that any Offenders convicted in the said Settlement of Hongkong, and being under sentence or order of transportation, shall be sent by the earliest convenient opportunity to the said Settlements of Prince of Wales' Island, Singapore, and Malacca."
