THE GERMAN NAVY

Berlin, January 21. The German Emperor paid visit to the Tmperial dckyards Kiel yesterday and inspected the new large ships which are being bailt for the German navy. A model of the. new Imperial yacht "Hahauzolern"

Tras alka submitted to be Majesty's inspection. ***.

The Budget Committee of the Reichstag han noncladed its discussion of the new German. Navy Bill and recoramands the Reichstag to pase the measure, without further alteration. The proportion of the total cost of the navy which is to be borne by the ordinary naval estimator is fixed by the Navy Law & por cent. The committee has decided that thin smeunt

not sufficient and has resolveil that, in addition to the total cost of armsments, the estimates ought to provide for a higher per centage of the cost of the ships in proportion to the reduction in the age of battleship.

The North-German Gazette has received n telegram from Baron von Würtzburg in which the president of the Bavarian section of the Navy Longuo states that notwithtanding Sunday's menting at Cassel, the Bavarians continue to regard themselves as members of the League.

This agconnement dispece of a great deal of the criticist which was lavished upon the proceedings at Casal and shows that as-far as the Bavarians themselves are concerned the prospect of the direction of the League's affaire apon more moderate lines is sufficient to assure g the survival of the organization aś'a whole.

Outside the immediate circle of General, Kein supporters there is no disposition to defend or to exonse the recent conflict in the Lesgua The extravagant agitation on the part of the extremists is professedly deplored by a number of responsible journals. But even if daring the next few months comparatively little should be heard of the League this quiescence will not necessarily imply that it has renounced the ambitions which it has formed for the German nary or that it has definitely abandoned the methods which have made its propaganda popular-The Times.
