Surveyor Generali Office, Victoria, 272 th June, 1847,
I have the honor to acknowledge
receipt of your letter No. 189. together with the enclosures and Pleport of the Board of Survey upon the wooden Bridge in the Wengnichung Valley,
and which
are herewith returned.
I must express my regret that
the planking of the Bridge has not been so serviceable as I had hoped, and when
placed
in the work the knots did not
appear sufficient
to cause me to reject
the timber altogether, although many
pieces were rejected,
Some in Consequence
of the great quantity of sup wood therein, and others from its knotty and
Honorable Major Caine,
Colonial Secretary.
