IN BCMMARY JURISDICTION,
GUIT FOR BLANDER,
Ao action was brought by Lam Sik-ying, of Ciroalar Pathway, against Cann Hang-toug boarding house keeper of 84, Connaught Road, to rarer the sam of $1,000 for slander.
Mr. G. K. Hall Bratton (of Musra. Bruttos and Hett) apposred for plaintiff, and Mr. E. J. Grist (of Messra Wilkinson and Grist), for the defendant.
Mr. Bratton stated that the slander consisted of the following words, which were spoken in in the prosence of the plaintiff's wife and two concubines by the defendant - Bik-ying has stolen from ms 830. It appeared that on July 17th, defendant want to the house of the plaintiff and asked if he was in. He was told that the master was not at home and then he told the women that the plaintiff hat stolen 8300 from him, und h wis going to have him arrested. Later in the evening a Buropean and Chinese constable wont to plaintiff's house and searched, but found nothing,
When his thres wives had given evidenon regarding the visit of doloudant to their house, Lam Sik-ying was called, and denied having stolen the money,
In cross-examination he admitted calling at defendant's house, but he did not enter his private room. He merely looked in the door.

I cannot for that reason disbelieve the witness; from bis position in the Co. He is not likely to give false evidence and bring discredit on Lia Co. in the eyes of the shipping com macity.
But further I
think that the forms of policies satully in uso do in East corroborate him for in one there is an express reference to the risk of craft clause. Thor was another point dealt with in the arga. rout which it is advisable I should deal with; that even if the clause as to 'risk of

There is here a question left very much in the air. The lighter ces may be cases where the ship lands its cargo in lighters and thezo is obviously another question involved which Į have already indicated, what the law is where there is delay through fault of the ship; but not through fault of the opssigned and vice versa.
