RIOT REPORTS.
To the Editor of the North China Daily News. Sir-I gather from my Home papers that The Times Paking Correspondent lias described the rising on the Klangai borders-by which I suppose he means the rising in Pingbelang, Kiangai) Liling, Liuyang and Pingliang, as a ridiculous riot, magnified by reports into (Hanau) of last year and beginning of this year an anti-dynastic rising. The words "ridiculous riot" rather make one rub one's eyes. I am amazed at Dr. Morrison in so dismissing what was a very serious affair, especially as one geoerally trusts to and relies upon the accuracy of so distinguished a correspondent.
I
Lappen to live in the very district where the rising occurred and can assure you that it was much more formidable than a ridiculous riot, From proclamations which came into my posses sion as early sa Noveraber of last year and from Information received at first hand on the spot I can prove that the rising was more than local and mock more than a rint. As early as July of last year during a visit to Linyong the magistrate and offiour in command of troops in the city give me details of a very nasty affair placs twenty i N. This proclama tion emanated from the headquarter of the insurrectionary movement and its purpose was to calm the fears of the populace. The rising was announced but no details given beyond the fact elated that in each county were men swore to join in the general row as the effair progressed, but that ordinary people need not BLd persons
in authority, slaves of the Manobur, fear molestation. Only be lives of officials word songht,
The 23rd of the 10th moon I witnessed as

Meantime the colony of German had been sant down to Changsha ander escort and the resident missionary of Liling (Hunau) was alse sent in to Changsha from his station.
