GENERAL COMMUTEE.
The relief givin may be divided into fre parte:-
(1) Relief to Pengoban, Pengohan is a sus idol at the top of Mirs Bay and the inhabitants depend entirely upon destroyed in the typhoon and a grant of 31000 was made to enable the boats to be replaced. Immediate distress was relieved by distribution of rice.
(2) Repaircf embankments and compensation for loss of crops,

The Committee are greatly indebited to these goullamen for the very saluabia services rendered and wish to record their appreciation of the work doue. The numbers of claims to be emisidered was very great, and required vory careful consider- ation in order to ensure that the fund was administered to the est ulvantage and that only those really deserving of assistance should receive it.
The first and mest prowing matter demanding the consideration of the Committee was the relief of d-stitute widowe and orphans, and the recovering and burying of the dead.
At a meeting held on the 26th September it was resolved that the purchase or building of boats by the Committee was undesirable; also that a grant en at to at least one-third of his loss should be made to each boximan upon the condition that he should gal 19 work us sonb as possible, the condition to be enforceal by suraties.
