The Shipping Rings' inquiry was resumed on March 5th when Mr. Langdon (of Menuri. Behring and Co.) gave evidence on behalf of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Langdon, who has over 30 yea e experience as a shipper of cotton yarns and textiles, was s most interesting witness, though by the terms of his instructions from the Chamber's Committes he was not permitted to suggest say remedy against the shipping companies.
Witness began by stating that there were combines on the ocean routes to nearly all markets, and that nader the deferred ente syster any shipment made by outside sleather subjected the shipper to a forfeiture of ail the rebates earned during a period of 8, 8. 2, or 12 months. Asked who got the benefit of the rebate, witress said here was an agreement, bat the buyer was entitled to the rebate because he found the freight.
