Hongkong, 8th April 1907. St-In the person of the late Mr. J. M. A Silva the Colony has lost not only one of its oldest residents but a man of rare gifts add many accomplishments. Some information a regards his life and work would inferost a great many roeders of your widely rend paper. For this resson I am writing this as a supplement to the paragraph which appeared in your issue of this morning, tenching upon his demise.

The late Mr. Jezo Maria Silva received his education at Calcutta where be distinguished famself creditably in his studies expecially in Chemistry, a branch of study to which the dcensed showed a grout inclination from childhood.
