intended to make the same charge for icons in the past.
The Chairman replied that the Company would have to take into consideration any opposition whether rising from the large amoint of natural ice collected by untives or from the rumoured opposition company. They would have to regulate their prices according to the mares of the opposition.
Mr. Fyfo said he had heard that there was now in ne a ner vacuum system by means of which is could be produced at mach cheaper rates than formerly. He hoped the Directore would took ahead and keep fully slire to the position of affairs.
The Chairman anid they were fully aware of the new system to which Mr. Evie rofer. od and during the list six months had been ju communication with the profitistors of the new system. They had practically obtained the right of first refusal for Shangbai and district, but before coming to any definite decision it would be arcessity for the plant of

Ballark has now put up a most extraordinary record, as he has won six times out of seven starts (one of his victories, however, being taken away from bim on disqualification).
The recent Government notification regard. ing this redusting of the number of chests of opium to be offered for sale has evidently given rise to some misapprehension. The present notification only fult's the undertaking given by Mr. Morley in the ileuse of Commons so Inte as Novembar 30th, to reduce the des to the standard which obtained in 1991. The forecast for 19 7 offered 52,830 chosts for sale against 18,000 in 1901, and the average monthly differ euce was, therefore, 4, which is orsotly what the present reduction works out to,
The Government of India are apparently taking action in respent of the opium centro- remy. The following significant notic› appears is a recent iasis of the Gazette of Iulia- "With referense to clause (3) of the

BANGKOK DOCKS.
Skipping and naval circles in Loudon do not like the report from Berlin to the effect that a German sadicate is negotiating for the purchase of the Bangkok Dock Company which is now financed by British, Sinwese and Freach
money. The Company, which has a direct concession from the Siamese Gosein. ment, has a pre-emptive right to the purchase of adjacent lands, and if thoroughly developi al might give the company opportunities ruaning it very much as a coaling port and repairing station. There are other movements 2,500,000 afoot in London for the development of the public services of Bangkok, but the proceedings are being conducted with striat secrecy.
