On April 1st, a fatal explosion took place at a match factory at Keba, two girls being killed adjoining offices were destroyed by firo. It is supposed that the fire was caused by friction of the match-boxes handled by operatives: Happily the number of hands at work was smaller than usual, it being the 1st of the month, and generally observed as a holiday in such factories. Immediately the explosion took place, a slarepodo followed, and a number of men and girls came rushing out of the building, some having their hair singed. One of the girls was discovered beneath the deb is, barot to death. The factory was owned by Tomonari Tsunetara, of Fukuwara, and the total damage is estimated at about Y5,00. The office premises
were insured for Y1,500 with the Tokyo Fire Office.
