Oo the 28th the crew began to discharge cargo with a view to lighten ing this ship, but a strong wind and high sea made the operations most diffenic. The next day the Chief Officer, two ablo seament, and two passengers left the ship in a boat to Book assistance. The boat stranded, and it was necessary to dispatch the ship's lifeboat to rerchas them. The salary of the Superintendent of General Affairs is fixed ut Y4,000 to Y4500, in addition to an extra allowance in the same smart, and he is also to be paid social expenses not exceeding | Y3,000. The Superintendents of Agriculture, Conroerco, and Industry and the Superintend est of Police each receive a salary of Y,000 to Y3,500, in addition to an extra allowance of the same amount.-Japan Chronicle.
