DEFICIENT EXTERNAL AIR.
An application was made for a modification of the requirements of suction 153 of the Public Health and Buildings Ordinancs 1908) in respost
of Nos. 41 and 13 Hillier Street.
The M.O.H.reported that although the strast was nearly 13 foot wide he could not recommend the granting of the application for the following reasons:-The horses were four-storey houses, and were opposed by four-storey houzes noross the street. The neighbourhood was a very congested sue, and the horses were, is it were,
in the bottom of a pit. The ground falls "ory rapidly down from Hollywood Rond acress Cirenler Putlaway to Queen's Road, and there- are the houses in question were not well situated for efficient ventilation.
On account of this report the Bourd previous- ly refused the application.
The further application forwarded by Messrs. Palmer and Turner, architects, in respect of these houses stated that to comply with th.... ordinares and obtain external air to these houses, it was necessary to set back the external walla for a distance of eight feet, a space so small that it was questionable if the houses would be at all impaired thereby as rogards light and air. As an alternative to setting tack the front walls a modification could be granted for the first and second doors; omitting the ground fours, which the owner was prepazed to close for living purposes.
The PRESIDENT This, gentkomen, is an #pplication for permission to count a laus 12 feet 4 inches wide as extorual air. The Medical Beer of Health still sees no reason to modify his previous report, and I move that this further application be refused.
The motion was secunded and carried.
