OUR OWN

BRANDS:

HOME BOTTLED:

The 110th annual report of the L. M. B states that the work has made remarkable pro- gress during the year. In Chion, where an amazing change has come over the prospects of misalone, there is a most pressing need of an immediate and large increase in the staff, but the scoiety's funda are quite unable to meet the noods of this and other fields. The Chinezo Christings are remarkably independent, aggres- sise, and generous, and include a number of Christian leaders who are proving themselves splendid pioneers and able pastors. · In the Eonth Sea Islands such progress has been made that the society may begin to withdraw its missionaries, limiting their attention to higher education, the training of native ministers, and the preparation of Christian literature. In Bouth Africa already the native churches of GREGOR & Co.'s IMPERIAL HIGHLAND WHISKY ... Cape Colony maintain their own pastors, most of whom are Europeans, at arry on evangelistic work at many ont-stations. The Church in Madagascar has grown greatly in trus spiritual strength, though the majority of the French officials show an unfriendly spirit in many ways, and heathen practices are being revival. About half the work there has been transferred to the Paris Missionary Society. In India a remarkable development of educa tional work is creating new standards of moral pelaciple and destroying rooted pro- judicus against Christianity. The society's staff comprises 250 men and 71 women missionaries, 930 ordained nativos, 4,243 native preachers, 1,664 tencbars, and 250 Bible-women. There are 80,105 Church members, 240,390 adHarouts, and 55,852 Sunday scholars. Local contribu tions last year amounted to £25,433, besides £7,667 in school fuos nad £7,021 in medical mission rossipts. The society has 3 fully qastitled medical missionarios, 15 hospitals, and 26 dispensaries, at which 7,559 in-patients and 177,721 out-patients were treated last year. The past year's income has been £177,710, in- eluding £25,145 in legacies; and the current your has begun with a deficit of £26,691,

EMIGRATION FROM HONGKONG.

Barenty-six thousand, three hundred and four (76,304) emigrants left Hongkong for various places during 1904, of these 52,495 were carried by British ships and 23,808 by foreign ships; 149,195 were reported as having been brought to Hongkong from places to which they had emigrated, and of these, 121.735 were brought in British ships and 27,460 by foreign shins,
