returns to nearly Shanghai Tuels 2,801,000 forsiga paper amounted vecouling to Customs while the export of paper from China Ports than Shanghai Taels amounted to 4000. There are no means of arriving at the quantites of paper made by natives in inland districts but it is estimated the value would amount to many millions of taels annually. These figuros give some idea of the immenge field waiting to be exploited by the paper manufacturer. The demand for newspapers and magazines is multiplying yourly and with the opening of schoole in all the Provinces and the general demand for Western knowledge a ensiderable increase of paper manufacture is nodessarily expected.
