THE SISTERS who direst ST. ANTONIO'S CONVENT at Macas will be very thankful
to Shop-keepers, Linen-drapors, Clothiers and Tailors in Hongkong, Macao, and elsewhere who will send to them remnants of material, book's
of patterns no longer used, and any pieces of cloth, no matter how small, of which they can-X not make use.
Those who send will thus, at no cost to themselves, afford the numerous hands in the convent, especially the little ones, opportunity
attained, and dispensing with those vast margins.AP OF THE SIANG or WEST for useful occupation; for piece of cloth, even
and vacant spaces which have heretofore charac terized Chinese publications.
To illustrate the vast scope of the work tho following facts are submittodfor consideration: Chalters Vocabulary contains about 16,000 Chinese characters, and Madhurst's English and Chinese Dictionary about 100.000 whilst this work contains more than 50,000 English words Chinese character and upwards of 000,000, Again, despite all the grammars and other elementary works es yat published, the student of this difficult language absolutely requires on. amples to display the various applications and equivalents of different words which have one general meaning. Of these examples this work contains more than five times as many as any other Dictionary hitherto published.
For practical purposes the arrangement of the -work-in-no-complete that a reference to its pages. enables a person who understands English to communicate effectively with natives who under- stand nothing but Chinese. In this respect the Ted by the HONGKONG AND SHANG work will be found indispensable to all Europeans HAI BANKING CORPORATION.
