CELEBRATIONS AT HONGKONG,

Yesterday being the King's Birthday was observed as a public holiday. All the Govera ment offoes, the exchango banks, schools and most of the mercantile firms were closed. The day was favoured with glorious weather: the sky was perioctly, clondloss in the morning; cool and yory and the atmosphere

At an early hour Hongkong presented a very active appearance holiday makers crowding towards Happy Valley to see the King's Drthday Review. The Royal Standard was hoisted at Head Quartors House, and the Uninu Jack on board the hospital ship Meance. At Kowloou Pelico Pier the military anthorities were busy omlarking troops. This work was performed with remarkable smoothness: harses, etc., had been sent over on the previous day. The troops quartored at Hongkong, several companies of bluejackets and ma-ines, and the Hongkong Volunteers as they marched to the Happy Valley added colour to the already gay appearance of the city.
