Here is an extract: At 8-30 a.m. on the 6th. I left Gallo in the tug Somson and steamer to the supposed position of the Frin Heinrich rock on which I found the fishing canoe anchored. as directed. I placed a bamboo work one mile west of the rock, and proceeded sloty steering east and sounding as often as possible. I dropped a coni-merk as near the rock as I considered. it safe to go, and a third one mile east of it.
I dropped my lifeboat into the water abreast of the rock to sound and ascertain the dimen- sions of it, but the tremendous well that was running and generally prevails on this coast t the season rendered it unsafe to take the boat over the rock. I then with great difficulty.
